The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has rewritten it's policy governing movement of dozers on public highway s which read:

  1. 1. Dozer with blade not exceeding 10 ft. in width: no restriction
  2. Dozer with blade over 10 ft. in width and not extending 12 ft. in width without traffic protector guard rail device is restricted to movement within 25 mile radius of the point of origin.
  3. In all other instances blade must be removed and hauled separately, Unless a traffic protective guard rail device is used as approved by the Department of Transportation. When protector device is used the dozer must be loaded so that the blade is to the rear of the lowboy and the overall width may not exceed 180 inches.

Now through the use of the Blade Protector contractors may move dozers with mounted blades and fitted with the Blade Protector up to a maximum width of 15' including the Blade Protector. Properly loaded so that the blade is to the rear of the lowboy, the dozers can be moved throughout the state without a mileage restriction.

This eliminates previous requirement of removing dozer blades that exceed the allowable width permitted by the Commonwealth. The Blade Protector consists of a pair of specially formed sections of steel rails that are attached to the sides of the dozer. The rail sections run along the outsides of the dozer blade and then angle inward, so that in the event they were struck by oncoming traffic, the Blade Protector would deflect vehicles away from the trailer dozer, her then allow a head-on-collision.

The Blade Protector eliminates the difficult procedure of removing wide blades from tractors and hauling them to their next job site on.......an additional hauling unit. By using the Blade Protector, two men can either mount or unmount the Blade Protectors in just ten minutes.

Total weight of the two units is 560 pounds, 280 pounds on each side.
