The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's policy governing movement of dozers on public highways reads:
"(c) Movement of dozers: A dozer with an attached blade in excess of 12 feet in width, but no wider than 15 feet, may be hauled upon the highway if a traffic protector guide rail device is securely fastened to the dozer." -- Section 179.11 Special vehicle - load restrictions
"Traffic Protector rail device - An instrument approved by the department, which is placed around the extremities of a protruding dozer blade, as specified in Section 179.11" -- Section 179.1 - Definitions
If a blade guard is not utilized under these circumstances, the blade must be removed and hauled separately. While using the guards, the equipment must be loaded with the blade to the rear of the trailer and the overall width may not exceed 180 inches.
